Description: Part one of this presentation will offer a comprehensive exploration of Florida's mental health landscape through the lens of the Baker Act. The history and evolution of the Baker Act, highlighting key legislative milestones and amendments since its inception in 1972 will be discussed. Ethical considerations form a crucial component, addressing the principles guiding mental health professionals, including confidentiality, autonomy, and the delicate balance between individual civil rights and public safety. We delve into practical aspects, covering the initiation of Baker Acts both in-person and via telehealth, emphasizing the significance of thorough assessments, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ethics. Practical insights provide a step-by-step walkthrough of the Baker Act process, highlighting the roles of various stakeholders such as law enforcement, mental health professionals, and emergency receiving facilities. The presentation also tackles common misconceptions, seeking to offer clarity on the legal and procedural dimensions of the Baker Act. The incorporation of case studies and real-life examples will be given to foster a deeper understanding of this critical intervention tool.

    Learning Objectives

Objective 1: Describe the historical development and current legal framework of Florida’s Baker Act and Marchman Act, including key legislative milestones and statutory criteria for involuntary commitment.
Objective 2: Explain the ethical considerations involved in initiating involuntary mental health and substance use treatment, with attention to civil rights, confidentiality, autonomy, and public safety.
Objective 3: Differentiate the processes, procedures, and clinical decision-making pathways associated with Baker Act versus Marchman Act interventions, including initiation methods, court involvement, and treatment planning.
Objective 4: Evaluate complex case scenarios involving behavioral health crises by identifying appropriate legal interventions, assessing dangerousness, and recommending coordinated treatment responses using ASAM criteria and expert consultation when applicable.

    Online on ZOOM

    1:30 PM - 4:30 PM EST

Description: When grief is typically explored, it is through the lens of the loss of a loved one.  This loss may be sudden and unexpected, or it may be a long painful illness one prepares for.  However, grief takes many forms.  This webinar will explore the various types of grief that clients may experience, mental health comorbidities that are experienced during those times, and ways clinicians can be more attuned to their client’s needs as well as treatment options.  Grief can sometimes be a difficult subject, even for clinicians to discuss.  This topic is often taught in universities with one course at the most, but the complexity of this topic goes way beyond a few weeks, and it is a topic every clinician will run into during their time practicing.  This webinar will help to inform the clinician of how to better understand, approach and treat their clients with the subject of loss.

    Learning Objectives

Objective 1: Differentiate the various forms of grief.
Objective 2: Explain how grief is more than the loss of a loved one.
Objective 3: Discuss the ways that grief affects the various members of a family based on their roles.
Objective 4: Describe ethical ways for clinicians to work with and treat clients with grief.

Description: Working with high-impact caseloads can quietly drain even seasoned clinicians. This training translates current evidence on burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion fatigue into immediately usable tools for therapy rooms, agencies, and private practices. Attendees will learn how to screen risk with brief measures, introduce micro-interventions that fit inside a 50-minute hour, and build a realistic 3-2-1 resilience plan that protects clinical judgment, empathy, and longevity in the field. Content is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and designed for direct clinical application.

    Learning Objectives

Objective 1: Differentiate burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion fatigue, including common risk indicators observable in clinical practice.
Objective 2: Administer and interpret at least one brief screening tool and map results to individualized action steps.
Objective 3: Demonstrate three micro-interventions clinicians can use personally and teach to clients.
Objective 4: Develop a 3-2-1 Action Plan and identify two system-level levers to sustain resilience over time.
